Barack Obama’s not the first politician to use the phrase “lipstick on a pig” (the list includes John McCain, BTW). Obama’s just the first to use it since Sarah Palin turned up on the ticket. Now, it’s all anyone’s talking about … and GOP campaign strategists couldn’t be happier! Whether it’s Karl Rove or his toadies, the Republicans are masters of diversion. The party is like a huge octopus squirting clouds of ink into the political water to obscure those pesky things called “ISSUES!” And the media gets suctioned onto the tentacles. How many hours will now go into hashing and rehashing what Obama said, and what he really meant, instead of reporting on the candidates’ plans for economy, or health care, or Iraq, or anything that might actually MATTER TO THE VOTERS?
In the interest of preventing other linguistic diversions, may I recommend that any and all Democrats refrain from using the following common political metaphors and terms between now and November 5th.
DEMS SAY: GOP SPINS:
“If it quacks like a duck …” “They’re making fun of Palin’s voice!!”
“Grandfathering” something “They’re making cracks about
into legislation …” McCain’s age!”
“Pork barrel spending” “Is that a fat joke?!”
Focus people, FOCUS!!!!

Considering the “lipstick on a pig” is a metaphor that can be interpeted in many ways, especially about this current administration
I have no problem if one thinks it was toward Palin, pigs are intelligent …. In my opinion, I think Palin’s hockey mom comment insults Pit Bulls.

I live in the brightest red county in a very red state and decided to get in touch with ladies that might feel as I did but didn’t know there were others that felt the same. I sent out the following note to friends to ask them to forward it on. We had 150 ladies show up and many others that planned to come let us know that they wanted to but couldn’t on that day. More of us out there than we realize
FEELING LIKE A LONELY BLUE DOT IN A RED STATE ?
AN OBAMA SUPPORTER AND WONDERING IF THERE ARE OTHER LADIES OUT THERE THAT SUPPORT HIM TOO?
I have been riding around town with an Obama sticker for months now and run into friends that see my sticker or the pin on my purse and are cheered to see that there are others out there that support him so I thought it might be fun to just have a ladies get together to see the diverse group of supporters that he has here on the Eastern Shore. You might not realize there are others with the McCain Palin signs that are popping up. It just dawned on me that we might all like to get together and just see who else is supporting him. This is not a campaign rally in the sense of speakers, and a meeting, just a chance for friends to get together. The best spot I have found for such an occasion is Fly Creek Café. I stopped by there this afternoon and the lady that I talked to thought it was a great idea. There is plenty of room and people can buy whatever they want to drink there at the bar or get something to eat if they choose. The debate will be at 8 that night so my thought was for people to come by between the hours 5:30 and 7:30 and just enjoy one another’s company. Jeri Harrison has volunteered to be there with a sign up list and some bumper stickers if any of you want to get more involved.
Please forward this to any of your lady friends that you think might want to attend. Just let them know that they can buy whatever they want from the bar and we can either gather in the yard or on the porch (if raining) and hopefully see a pretty sunset. There is a wheelchair ramp there at Fly Creek for anyone that needs it.
