There is no denying John McCain is a decent man … with a compelling narrative. As the mom of two adopted children, McCain’s family story resonates especially strongly.
I also happen to believe McCain when he says he respects and admires Barack Obama … and that “despite our differences, much more unites us than divides us. We are fellow Americans, and that’s an association that means more to me than any other.”
Alas, John McCain is clearly NOT the future that the GOP envisions. His nomination has the whiff of “oh, all right!” about it … like that kid you pick for your kickball team because your mom wants you to play nice. Even though he’s voted in near-lockstep with George Bush these past 8 years, he’s incurred the wrath of plenty of Republicans who aren’t comfortable with his cross-party alliances and moderate posture.
But they’re ready to campaign, and campaign hard with the Mooseslayer on deck. (James Fenimore Cooper fans forgive me!) Sarah Palin’s nasty cracks whipped that crowd into a frenzy the top of the ticket couldn’t match. And who could fail to notice that immediately after McCain finished his speech, the convention producers cued up “Barracuda” (“Sarah Barracuda” was Palin’s high school basketball team nickname) on the sound system. There will be blood all right … and with McCain’s age and cancer history legitimate concerns … this is no time for campaign complacency! Just imagine how 4 years as veep tees Palin up for a presidential run in 2012!!
That’s why I’m out there … wearing so many ‘O’s” I look like a walking bowl of Cheerios! How about you?

All I could think while watching was “Jeez, this man is REALLY old.” and “Am I going to make to the end of this speech without failing asleep?” It was so boring.
BTW…You have to love those sneaky war protesters. They were the most exciting moment of the whole speech. Did you see the lady tear her coat open while they were hauling her out the door? That got my attention..for about two seconds. Otherwise, what a yawn.
I have no doubt John McCain loves America. The Republicans insinuating I don’t, well that just pisses me off. So..I will be taking my anger and turning it into contributions. Because there is one thing we can’t let them do and that’s beat us because they have more money. I am making the donations today. I know I will be contributing to the Obama/Biden Campaign AND the DNC/DCCC today and you all should too.
Peace.

I used to think John McCain was a good guy. And a moderate. But not any more. Why? Because he says so. Had a discussion with a work cohort last night who’s warming up to McCain. When I warned about how McCain would load up the judiciary with right wing nut cases, he looked at me, smiled slyly and said, “Are you sure?”
Shades of 1999, all over again.
Remember when everyone thought W was a moderate? They claimed he’d worked across the aisle in the TX statehouse ad nauseum. Remember when they smiled knowingly and said he was really a reasonable, good guy. And that he was just playing to his base with all the right-wing rhetoric?
I do.
And I’m sorry, but a candidate who puts a proven far-right hypocritical zealot (whose resume starts with “PTO president”) a heartbeat away from the highest office on the planet is not a good man. He’s an opportunist. And a cynic. Someone who puts his candidacy above our presidency.
So I agree with “bad choice” part. But the “good guy” part–not so much…

I was in a retail shoppe yesterday and the cashier and a customer were just gushing with excitement about Sarah Palin’s speech.
I became physically ill listening to them talk. The customer commented how she was going to have to skip her tennis lesson so she could be ready to hear McCain speak… “He is such a great man!”. They then discussed how excited they were …. looking forward to hear McSame’s speech. I never knew shopping could be so brutal.
After thinking about it – YES! > i am returning my purchase back to the store today and I am contributing that money to the Obama/Biden Campaign.

It is going to be a sad day for Palin when she wakes up and realizes she was chosen only because she is a young “just to the right of Ghenkis Kahn” conservative and here is the most important part..FEMALE. I see that the supposedly gentle Mom took no time at all to start spewing the hate and insults of the right wingmuts..
Geee, for such a bible thumping crowd, the RNC sure has picked two real wieners.. One adulterer who returns from being a POW only to find he didn’t like how his wife (who had stuck by him and recovered from a horrific accident on her own in his absence) had “changed” so he had an affair and then divorced her, to marry the heiress 18 years younger than him.. WOW.. And I thought the republicans were bringimg morality back to the whitehouse?? Then we have his VP nominee… Palin… who seems unable to teach basic morality to her children.. (I guess Abstinence only was not taught very well in her household) Oh, but that is all OK… nevermind a pregnant, unwed 17 year old.. that is all OK cause she’s gonna keep the baby… It is time for Americans to wake up. It is time for the DEMOCRATS in this nation to get some gumption and take these people on!!
I feel like in the last 2 elections the DNC was still reeling from the Clinton fiasko and just laid there.
Time for a recovery.. This Country cannot afford 4 more years of Bush in the name of McCain..

Good for you cheesenip….but the next time you should find the manager and tell them you have decided to take your business elsewhere because the salesperson “offended” you with her political views. Might not make any difference, but you never know. Of course, it will not work if you were in Wal-Mart (the Evil Empire). They are telling their employees to vote for McCain.
Did you all see where Cindy Lou’s outfit (yellow dress that made her look like a skinny banana) wore on Monday night (while begging for donations for hurricane victims) cost in the neighborhood of $300,000? The price of a home…un-freaking-real. Millions of people are losing their homes and she could pay off someone’s mortgage with her damn outfit. DISGUSTIING! She should be ashamed of herself asking for people to help Hurricane victims while she plays fashionista…. $300,000 would have REALLY been a nice donation to the American Red Cross.
